Personal Piece

Perhaps a piece that I did not expect to share. Yet, one that was accepted for the literary blog, Festival for Poetry. At times, I feel ashamed of my past- afraid that my weakened self would return. Yet, with a new name, I am confident in the person I am and will become. Trauma is never easy to overcome. Yet, I hope that through some of the stories I write readers of similar situations can find a shred of hope. Please understand, being abused is never easy but being abused is never your fault as victim. The choices to rise above that pain and grow stronger are all that you can take. In time, healing is possible. With that said, should you choose to read my poem, 'Honestly,' then be prepared to learn a lot about the person behind the screen. Stay well and creative - never let anyone rob you from your right to smile.
